The PAC Website Project

A great website facilitates information sharing communication in an accessible way. In October 2024, Burnaby DPAC is launching a new project to help Burnaby PACs set up, create content for, and maintain their own websites.

SD41 has provided DPAC with web hosting and a web domain – burnabypac.ca – free of charge, and DPAC is offering any Burnaby PAC who wants to join the project their own dedicated and free website with its own school-specific sub-domain using the following format:

https://
.burnabypac.ca

The new website will be powered by WordPress, have an accessible and customizable theme installed, and offer the plugins your PAC needs to provide useful features like contact forms, calendar integration, image galleries and more.

How to Join the Project

The PAC Website Project is open to all Burnaby PACs.

In the initial phase we are looking for 4-6 PACs to join a Website Working Group. The goal of the group is to develop a robust plan for full-scale rollout to all PACs.

The Website Working Group will map out the goals, wants, and needs for a PAC website, find the right themes, plugins, and other tools, get training on how to use WordPress and help develop training for other PACs, and launch their own PAC websites.

No previous web publishing experience is required to join the project or the Website Working Group. Project lead Morten is a world-renowned technology trainer and former WordPress contributor. He will provide training and guidance as needed.

The Website Working Group will meet in-person and online throughout the development period and will also communicate by chat.

To take part in the project, or to voice your interest in joining the Website Working Group, press the button below and fill out the intake form.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Our PAC already has a website we are happy with. Do we still need to join the PAC Website Project?
A: No, your PAC does not need to join the project. Participation is optional.

Q: There is a website for our PAC, but no current PAC member has administrator access to it. What can we do?
A: Provide information about your existing website in the intake form and we will investigate options.

Q: We already have a domain for our PAC website. Can we keep it?
A: Yes, you can. We will help you redirect redirect your existing domain to the new website when it goes live.

Q: Will we be able to move content from our existing website to the new one?
A: Yes, though the moving process will depend on how and with what tools your website was built. This process will be covered during the building of the new website.

Q: Can DPAC manage our PAC website?
A: No. Each PAC will manage their own website.

Q: Do we have to pay for a domain name and/or hosting for the new website?
A: The new website will come with a free domain formatted as your-school-name.burnabypac.ca. If your PAC wants to use a custom domain name, that must be arranged by the PAC and at the PAC’s own expense.

Q: Will we get new email addresses for the PAC?
A: To be determined. Stay tuned for updates on this question.
